Chromogenic Glucuronide SubstratesThese novel chromogenic substrates for the detection of beta-D-glucuronidase activity, 2,3-Dihydroxynaphthalene β-D-glucuronide (DHN β-D-glucuronide, product code: 80065 CHA salt and 80066 sodium salt) and 2-Hydroxyphenyl β-D-glucuronide (Catechol β-D-glucuronide, product code 14065 CHA salt and 14066 sodium salt), give highly-visible purple and black colours (respectively) when cleaved in the presence of an iron salt, under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions. They offer a number of advantage over other commonly used substrates, one major advantage being that these dark colours show a remarkable contrast between positive and negative bacterial cultures and are able to mask the yellow produced by ONPG cleavage, making them particularly suitable for dual chromogenic systems.
