CHROMOGENIC β-D-RIBOFURANOSIDE SUBSTRATES

These compounds exploit the advantage that the spectrum of ß-D-ribofuranosidase activity in many bacteria differs from that of other glycosidases commonly used for diagnostic purposes. This difference may be used to devise new media in diagnostic microbiology. One study on the evaluation of beta-D-ribofuranosides in the differentiation of Gram-negative bacteria has been published. A full copy of this article is available from Glycosynth on request.

Indoxyl-ß-D-ribofuranosides such as X-riboside (70180) are protected by European Patent 1436411 "Chromogenic Enzyme Substrates and Method for Detecting beta-D-Ribofuranosidase Activity" and the equivalent US Patent 7,323,488. The use of DHF-Riboside (50180) and other chromogenic ribofuranoside substrates is covered by European Patent 1438424 "Enzyme Substrates for Detecting beta-D-Ribofuranosidase Activity" and its equivalent US Patent 7,384,763
